CHARACTERISTICS, PROPERTIES AND BENEFITS OF GINSENG THROUGHOUT HISTORY
Ginseng or Panax ginseng is a perennial plant with elongated roots from the Araliaceae family native to Asia. Its stems measure up to 80 cm and bear oval, slightly serrated leaves. The small white flowers are grouped in umbels.
The plant must be permanently in the shade and root growth is very slow: around 6 years. In the wild in the forests of Eastern Asia, it is also cultivated in China, Korea and Japan.
A LITTLE HISTORY (GINSENG, ITS PROPERTIES AND USES)…
The word Panax comes from the Greek Pan: everything, and Akos: remedy, care and the meaning of Ginseng in Chinese is: source of life and longevity.
Considered a miraculous plant and initially reserved for the upper classes, ginseng has been used in China since very ancient times. The Emperor consumed it to preserve youth.
Ginseng has been traded at a high price throughout the world for centuries in both the East and the West since the discovery of the Canadian species of ginseng in the 18th century, then in the United States. This global trade is depleting wild ginseng resources.
Considered a panacea throughout the world for centuries, ginseng was introduced to Europe by the Arabs.
